Costa Rica Papagayo Marina Set for January Opening
Three Marinas Under Construction, 18 Before CIMAT Costa Rica’s second world-class marina, and the first in nearly eight years, is on target to open on the northern Pacific coast within four months.
The first 180 slips of the $15 million Marina Papagayo, within Bahía Culebra in Guanacaste’s far north, will open in January.
Marina Papagayo is one of three marinas currently under construction. Another six have filed detailed, first-draft plans before the Comisión Interinstitutional de Marinas y Atracaderos Turísticos, (or CIMAT), the government department charged with overseeing all technical aspects of marinas. In total 18 marinas are before CIMAT in various stages, all but one of which are to be built on the country’s Pacific coast.
“I’m very satisfied with the design, permits and construction processes,” Roberto Kopper, Director of the project, told journalists during a tour of the site this week.
“The construction phase of Marina Papagayo has generated 470 jobs, and will provide work to 360 people once it becomes operational,” Mr Kopper said. |
